Geoje, – The North Coral FLNG Project has reached a new relevant milestone with the launch of the floating unit’s liquefied natural gas production (FLNG) hull, carried out today at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in the Republic of Korea, which is a decisive step in the progress of the project infrastructure construction phase.
This event confirms the full entry of the project into the implementation phase following its adoption by the Council of Ministers in April 2025 and the Final Investment Decision (FID) announced by the consortium led by Eni Rovuma Basin (ERB) in October of the same year.
The FLNG North Coral is a replica of the FLNG South Coral, in operation and production since the end of 2022, and will use state-of-the-art technology for the production of 3.55 million tonnes of LNG per year from six submarine wells. The gas produced will be destined for both domestic and export markets.

By November 2025, the project had reached overall progress of more than 43% and the main contracts for the acquisition and installation of critical equipment were signed in December. For 2026, other determining factors, including drilling of production wells, completion of the financial structure, approval of LNG procurement and sale contracts and the financial closure, are foreseen.
After the ceremony of the launch of the Casco, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the INP, the Nazarite Engineer Bangalane, stressed that "this event confirms that the Northern Coral Project FLNG is moving, in a structured way, from the planning phase to the implementation phase, in accordance with the legal, regulatory and contractual framework approved by the government.”.
Bangalane also stressed that the role of the regulator is to ensure predictability, transparency and rigour in the implementation of major structural projects. "INP will continue to monitor continuously and technically all stages of the project, ensuring that deadlines, investments, contractual obligations and commitments of local content and sustainability are fully met", he added.
With an estimated investment of USD 7.2 billion, Coral Norte FLNG is expected to generate around USD 23 billion in revenue over its lifetime, as well as promoting job creation, mozambican workforce training and technology transfer.
The North Coral FLNG unit, currently under construction, will be anchored in Area 4 offshore of the Rovuma Basin, in the province of Cabo Delgado, about 10 km from the South Coral FLNG and more than 50 km from the coast of Palma district. The INP reaffirms its commitment to regulate, monitor and promote the efficient, transparent and sustainable management of the country's oil resources, ensuring that the implementation of the Northern Coral FLNG Project takes place in strict compliance with the legal and contractual framework in place and contributes effectively to Mozambique's economic and social development, energy efficiency and the enhancement of its content.
