MAPUTO – The Council of Ministers approved, at its 6th Ordinary Session on 3 March today, the establishment of an Interministerial Coordination Committee to monitor and ensure the evaluation of the Development Plan Amendments (PD) of the Dolphin/Atum (area 1) and Rovuma LNG (area 4) projects in the Rovuma Basin.
The initiative aims to strengthen coordination between the government sectors involved in the analysis of these structuring projects, ensuring an integrated, rapid and effective approach to the assessment of technical, economic and legal matters associated with the proposed Development Plan Amendments.
The Committees will be composed of Ministers overseeing the areas of oil, finance, economics, transport and logistics, labour, land and environment, and may include other sectors where necessary.
The Coordination Committee is headed by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, and it is up to the National Petroleum Institute (INP) to coordinate the technical team, as a regulator of oil operations, which will work in conjunction with institutions such as the Tax Authority, the Bank of Mozambique, in addition to the representatives of the ministries mentioned above. In this context, the INP will support the process of technical, economic and regulatory evaluation of projects, ensuring harmonisation of the contributions of the various State institutions and compliance with the applicable legal framework
With this measure the Government intends to ensure a rigorous and coordinated evaluation of the strategic projects of the natural gas sector, contributing to maximising the economic benefits and sustainable development of the country.
