Maputo, 22 September 2023 – At a meeting held with INP leaders, ExxonMobil was pleased with the progress on security in northern Cape Delgado, which makes them aware that the resumption of activities concerning Project Rovuma LNG will take place very soon. This information was given to the managers of the National Petroleum Institute (INP) during a meeting with this oil company at the margins of the International Conference on Gas Technologies (GASTECH 2023).
The INP team, led by Project and Development Pelour Administrator, José Cidade, participated in the 2023 edition of GASTECH, with the aim of attracting more investments to explore the potential of hydrocarbons in Mozambique and implement natural gas monetization projects in the country, which according to Mozambique's Natural Gas Master Plan prioritizes, among others, the generation of energy and production.
It should be noted that the Rovuma LNG Project was interrupted due to the action of insurgents in the north of Cabo Delgado, when preparation activities were carried out for the construction of the production and liquefaction plant of natural gas from the Mamba field of Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin. This project, proposed by Mozambique Rovuma Venture, of which ExxonMobil is a partner, provides for the production of about 15.2 MTPA (Million tonnes per year) of Liquefied Natural Gas, through 2 production modules, on land, with the possibility of expansion to 18 MTPA.
