MOZAMBIQUE BACIA, ONSHORE

The Rovuma Basin, located on the east coast of Africa, emerged as a strategic area for the exploitation of offshore energy resources. Its deep, resource-rich waters have attracted the attention of energy companies around the world. Below we list some of the concession areas and exploration blocks in the Rovuma Basin, where the activity of exploration and production of hydrocarbons is ongoing or planned:

The A5-A concession area is the result of the public tender launched in October 2014 for the granting of areas for the Research and Production of Hydrocarbons in Mozambique. Eni Mozambico S.p.A., Sasol Petroleum Exploration Lda. and National Hydrocarbon Company, E.P. (ENH, EP), they were awarded the Offshore Angoche A5-A area whose extension is 4.612 km2, located in the maritime part of the Republic of Mozambique. The Oil Research and Production Grant Agreement (CCPP) was signed in October 2018, having as effective date 1 January 2019; The area is operated by ENI Mozambico S.p. A with 49.5% participations and partners to Qatar Energy (25%), Sasol Petroleum (10%) and ENH, E.P. (15%).

The Oil Sharing Agreement (CPP) was signed with Sasol on 26 October 2000, with an initial 10-year research duration. The Area of the CPP geographically overlaps with the Pande Area/Temane APP (Oil Production Agreement), excluding Grudja G6 and G9 formation producing deposits in Pande and Temane gas fields, respectively. About 1800 km of seismic 2D (2001, 2005, 2016) and 125 km2 of seismic 3D (2016) were acquired, and a total of 15 research wells and 22 evaluation holes made.

  • Raven G6A
  • Tafula G8
  • Pande G10, G11 and G11A
  • Pande Este G11 and G11A
  • Temane G8
  • Temane This Deep (G11, G11A, G12 and G12A)

Activities
In 2015, a Field Development Plan (PdD) for Inhassoro G6, Inhassoro G10, Temane G8, Temane Este Profundo (G11, G11A, G12 and G12A) was presented. The PD was approved in January 2016. About 117 km of seismic 2D and 125 km2 of seismic 3D were acquired along Inhassoro G6 and G10, and 09 assessment and development wells were made in PD deposits from 2016 onwards, resulting in a better understanding of deposits. New and small discoveries were made in a well in 2016 during the development phase in the area of the CPP, Temane G6A, G11A and G12, with gas in the shallowest deposits and light oil in the deepest deposits. In 2019, the following findings were in the Commercial Assessment Period (CAP): Pande G10, G11 and G11A, Pande Eeste G11 and G11A, Corvo G6A and Tafula G8. Two valuation wells were carried out in 2018 to evaluate Pande's deposits.
Resource Estimates
Total estimates of resources present in PSA discoveries have gas volumes at the site of about 2.5-3 tcf, and recoverable gas volumes of about 1-1.5 tcf. The expected light and condensate recoverable oil is in the range of 30-40 million barrels of liquid. There are still significant uncertainties related to these estimates.

The CCPP was signed in October 2018 with Sasol and ENH as a result of the 5th area concession competition. The area is located in the onshore part of the Mozambique Basin, near the gas deposits of Pande and Temane, in northern Inhambane province. The research period has a duration of 8 years and was subdivided into 3 research sub-periods of 4 + 2 + 2 years.

Area Information

The CCPP was signed in the light of Decree 38/2008 of 17 October and approved by the Council of Ministers, and concluded on 31 October 2008 between the Government and the National Hydrocarbon Company (hereinafter referred to as "ENH") which then held 100 % shares with effect from April 2009. Subsequently ENH gave its participatory interest to Buzi Hydrocarbons Pte. Lda. (BHPL), as a strategic partner becoming this, the dealership and operator of this Block, with 75% of participatory interest and the partner ENH with 25%.

THE AREA OF DISCOVERMENT

Tigris Shark Discovery Area (1254 km2), has 3 reservoirs of the Cretaceous (K1,K2 and K3), the K2 being the best in Orca and Shark-Tigre and has a median estimate of 0.323 Tcf (cubic foot trillions) of natural gas.

UNKNOWN TUGRE AND ORCA (CRETACICO LEQUE 1, 2 E 3), ROVUMA OFFSHORE AREA 1

The complete technical evaluation of the potential of the Cretaceous in Area 1, between the Areas of Discovery Tubarão Tigre and Orca, determined that it contains small, discontinuous and low quality reservoirs, and this would probably present significant challenges in the supply of trade amounts of gas. Of the three reservoirs of Cretaceous (K1,K2 and K3) evaluated, the best is K2 in Orca and Shark-Tiger that has an average resource of 0.323 Tcf (cubic foot trillions) of natural gas.

FOUND OUT ORCA (LECK OF MEDIO PALEOCEN), ROVUMA OFFSHORE AREA 1

This discovery was made in Area 1 by Anadarko in 2013 through borehole Orca-1, whose reservoir is the age of the Middle Paleocene, was subsequently evaluated by the holes Manta-1, Orca-2, Orca-3 and Orca-4.

The discovery is located about 10 km from the coast line, 250 km from the city of Pemba. This reservoir is of Middle Paleocene age and is not shared. The average estimate of resources is about 8.4 Tcf (cubulated foot trillions) of natural gas in situ, according to estimates submitted by Total.

The reservoir in the Orca discovery lies at depths ranging from 4000 to 5000m below the mid sea level, and the water column from about 600m to 1200m. The extension is about 30 km.

UNCOVERED TUBARON (EOCENO), ROVUMA OFFSHORE AREA 1

This discovery was made by Anadarko in January 2011 through the Jaw-1 hole and evaluated by the Shark-2 hole (negative) in 2013. The discovery is located about 25 km from the coast line, 50 Km of the Northeast of the district of Mocímboa da Praia and 200 Km of the Northeast of Pemba City.

The reservoir is completely in Area 1. The average estimate of resources is about 3.4 tcf (cubic foot trillions) of gas in situ.

The reservoir is at a depth of 3500 to 4000 metres below the average sea level. The water column ranges from 800 to 1200 meters. The extent of the Shark discovery is about 20 km east-oriented.
