Speaking to those present, the National Petroleum Institute (INP) today reaffirmed its ambition to become a reference in regulatory innovation and sustainable development of oil resources during its participation in the Osaka Expo 2025.
By intervening in the celebrations of the National Day of Mozambique, in the panel under the theme "Emponding Lives (Education, and Work using Artificial and Robotic Intelligence)", the INP highlighted the role of our country as a reliable natural gas supplier, and committed to inclusive progress and the use of advanced technologies throughout the chain of value for research and production of hydrocarbons.
It reiterated that Mozambique has more than 180 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of natural gas in situ, of which 135 Tcf are technically recoverable. This consolidated allocation already supports four major Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) projects, namely the South Coral FLNG Projects, which already produces and exports liquefied natural gas to the international market, Dolphin/Atum, Rovuma LNG and North Coral FLNG, recently approved, confirming the status of the country as one of the main emerging suppliers to international markets.
During the intervention, the INP made known a set of strategic actions in preparation to modernise regulation and increase efficiency in the governance of the oil sector. Among these actions, we highlight the development of solutions based on artificial intelligence to strengthen remote supervision and digital systems to automate the monitoring and monitoring processes of real-time oil operations. These measures are part of an institutional transformation plan focused on transparency, agile response and operational sustainability.
In line with the theme of the event, the INP also announced that it intends to work with educational institutions and training centers to introduce content on robotics, data science, automation and artificial intelligence. The aim is to ensure that young Mozambicans acquire the skills required by the oil industry of the future and become protagonists in innovation in the sector.
The presentation of the INP at Expo Osaka also served as a platform to strengthen the call for new international partnerships, thus inviting governments, investors and multilateral organizations to join Mozambique's efforts to promote smart regulation, train skilled professionals and ensure responsible use of natural gas as a vector of economic development.
"Mozambique is committed to ethical, digital and future-oriented regulation. With abundant natural resources, technological solutions and qualified human capital, we have all the conditions to play a relevant role in the global energy landscape," said Reinaldo de Almeida, Director of Institutional Development and Compliance at the INP, and stressed that the transformation of the sector will only be sustainable if it is accompanied by strategic investment in Mozambican human capital.
The Expo 2025 Osaka is an exhibition from 13 April to 13 October 2025 on the artificial island of Yumeshima in Osaka, Japan. Under the motto "Projecting the Society of the Future for Our Lives", the event will bring together more than 150 countries and international organizations and is estimated to welcome more than 28 million visitors over the six months of activities.
Mozambique's presence at Expo Osaka 2025 confirmed the vision of a country that not only exports energy but also builds solutions for sustainable development, based on knowledge, innovation and shared responsibility.
