Mozambique Basin, Onshore

Active Area

Area A5-A

The A5-A concession area is the result of the public tender launched in October 2014 for the granting of areas for the Research and Production of Hydrocarbons in Mozambique. The companies Eni Mozambico S.p.A., Sasol Petroleum Exploration Lda. and National Hydrocarbon Company, E.P. (ENH, EP), were awarded the area Offshore Angoche A5-A whose the extension is 4.612 km2, located in the maritime part of the Republic of Mozambique. The Oil Research and Production Grant Agreement (CCPP) was signed in October 2018, having as effective date 1 January 2019;

The area is operated by ENI Mozambico S.p. A with 49.5% participations and partners to Qatar Energy (25%), Sasol Petroleum (10%) and ENH, E.P. (15%).

Pande & Temane PPA Area

The Oil Sharing Agreement (CPP) was signed with Sasol on 26 October 2000, with an initial duration of 10-year research. The Area of the CPP geographically overlaps with the Pande Area/Temane APP (Oil Production Agreement), excluding Grudja G6 and G9 formation producing deposits in Pande and Temane gas fields, respectively. About 1800 km of seismic 2D (2001, 2005, 2016) and 125 km2 of seismic 3D (2016) were acquired, and a total of 15 research wells and 22 evaluation holes performed.

The area of the CPP includes several discoveries in sandstone deposits in the formation of the Higher Cretaceous in the Lower Grudja (discovered during the 1960s, 1990s and the granting of the PSA in 2000 until now), such as:

Crow G6A, Tafula G8, Pande G10, G11 and G11A, Pande Este G11 and G11A, Temane G8, Temane Este Profundo (G11, G11A, G12 and G12A) all with natural gas, Inhassoro G6 with light oil halo with gas capping, and Inhassoro G10 with undersaturated light oil.

Based on the findings, two areas of discovery (Pande/Corvo Discovery Area and Temane/Inhassoro Discovery Area) were defined and approved, representing the contours of this CPP contract, after the end of the research period.

In 2015, a Field Development Plan (PdD) for Inhassoro G6, Inhassoro G10, Temane G8, Temane Este Profundo (G11, G11A, G12 and G12A) was presented. The PD was approved in January 2016.

About 117 km of seismic 2D and 125 km2 of 3D seismic were acquired along Inhassoro G6 and G10, and 09 evaluation and development wells were made in the PD deposits from 2016 onwards, resulting in a better understanding of the deposits.

New and small discoveries were made in a well in 2016 during the development phase in the area of the CPP, Temane G6A, G11A and G12, with gas in the shallowest deposits and light oil in the deepest deposits.

In 2019, the following findings were in the Commercial Assessment Period (CAP): Pande G10, G11 and G11A, Pande Eeste G11 and G11A, Corvo G6A and Tafula G8. Two valuation wells were carried out in 2018 to evaluate Pande's deposits.

Total estimates of resources present in PSA discoveries have gas volumes at the site of about 2.5-3 tcf, and recoverable gas volumes of about 1-1.5 tcf. The expected light and condensate recoverable oil is in the range of 30-40 million barrels of liquid. There are still significant uncertainties related to these estimates.

APP Area Pande & Temane

The Oil Production Agreement (APP) was signed on 26 October 2000 by Sasol, National Hydrocarbon Company (ENH), Mozambican Hydrocarbon Company (MCH) and Mozambique Government with the aim of developing and producing gas resources from Pande and Temane Deposits, as part of the "Mozambique for South Africa" Natural Gas Project.

The agreement provides for the construction of:

One Processing Centre (CCF) to initially process 120 MGJ per year;

A gas pipeline extending 865 km to transport the gas produced from Temane (Mozambique) to Secunda (South Africa). This pipeline has five points. offtake to supply gas to the Mozambican market.

The APP covers the deposits of the Pande and Temane gas fields, the formation of the Lower Grudja in the Upper Cretaceous, the Grudja 6 (G6) and Grudja 9 (G9) deposits, respectively. The two deposits have a total gas of about 4.5 tcf as a base estimate.

Natural gas production began in 2004 at Campo Temane, and in 2009 the Campo de Pande was coupled to the CPF. The total amount of gas produced from 2004 to 2018 is 2,087 MGJ (million Giga Joules), equivalent to about 1,8 tcf or 50,250 million Nm3 – normal cubic meters gas, and the condensate produced is 7.1 MMbbl (million barrels).

In each of the two gas fields about 30 holes were made in previous contracts and in the APP, including evaluation as well as development wells. The two fields are covered by 2D seismic data from different crops (six acquisitions of 2D seismic from 1990 to 2005, in addition to older seismics).

In 2016, Sasol acquired 42 km2 3D seismic in the central part of the Pande field around the well Pande-4, and in 2018 performed the first horizontal filling well in the G6 deposit in the Pande Field.

Area PT5-C

The CCPP was signed in October 2018 with Sasol and ENH as a result of the 5th area concession competition. The area is located in the part onshore of the Mozambique Basin, near the gas deposits of Pande and Temane, in the northern province of Inhambane. The research period has a duration of 8 years and was subdivided into 3 research sub-periods of 4 + 2 + 2 years.

Buzi area

The CCPP was signed in the light of Decree 38/2008 of 17 October and approved by the Council of Ministers and concluded on 31 October 2008 between the Government and National Hydrocarbon Company (From now on called "ENH") which then held 100% shares, with effect from April 2009. Subsequently ENH gave its participatory interest to Buzi Hydrocarbons Pte. Lda. (BHPL), as a strategic partner becoming this, the dealership and operator of this Block, with 75% of participatory interest and the partner ENH with 25%.
